You
have a number of special search keys with
which you can search for a specific subject, publication or author.
1. Search by people
People are indexed according to their 'last name,initials' or by 'last name,first name'
(without a space after the comma). For example:
Johnson,A
or
Johnson,Alfred.
If you type in a name without a comma followed by the initials or first name,
all people with that surname will be displayed.
However, if you type in a name with a comma followed by the initials or first name,
only people with names identical to that
typed in will be displayed. Naturally, you can use wildcards here as well.
2. Search by year of
publication
If you are searching for publications by a particular author and you wish to limit
the search results to a specific year of publication, you can modify
the search operation by using the following search keys. You can search
by year of publication using the following operators (the search
engine does not include serials in the search results):

3. Overview of special search
keys
Enter the following special search keys for the search term:
- Search by all words : ALL
Enter ALL before the search term if you want to search different parts
simultaneously, such as title, keyword and summary.
Example:
all albania;
all clinton foreign policy
- Search by title words : TTL
Enter TTL before the search term if you want to search the titles of books,
magazines, conference proceedings or magazine articles or other material.
Example: ttl american culture
- Search by author : AUT
Enter AUT before the last name, possibly followed by first name, initials
and prefixes if you are searching for a specific author.
Example:
aut ericson;
aut smith,william
(to find all versions of the first name you can follow
the first letter by a ?).
- Search by ISBN : ISB
Enter ISB before the ISBN number if you have the International Standard Book
Number for a specific publication.
- Search by ISSN : ISS
Enter ISS before the ISS number if you have the International Standard Serial
Number for a specific periodical
- Search by title words: journal : TTI
Enter TTI before the search term if you want to search magazine titles.
Example:
tti british medical journal
- Search by personal name : PRS
Enter PRS before the last name, possibly followed by first name, initials and
prefixes for the person you are searching for. The search key PRS applies both
for the person who has written a publication and for the person a publication
deals with (the subject of a publication).
Example: prs smith, william
- Search by corporation : COR
Enter COR before the search term(s) to search for publications published by a
specific organization.
Example: cor european union
- Search by local number : PPN
Enter PPN before the Pica production number if you have the production number
for a specific publication.
- Search by Dewey classification : DEW
Enter DEW before the Dewey code if you have the Dewey code for a specific
publication. Note: you must enter a backslash and a slash (\/) rather than
just a (/). If you only enter a slash, /4 in the following example would
stand for the number of 'variables' that the search operation may contain.
Example: dew 709\/.2\/4
- Search by UDC classification : UDC
Enter UDC before the UDC code if you have the UDC code for a specific
publication.
- Search by LC call number : LCN
Enter LCN before the LC number if you have the LC number for a specific
publication.
- Search by NLM call number : NLM
Enter NLM before the NLM number if you have the NLM number for a specific
publication.
- Search by systematic code : SYS
Enter SYS before the systematic code if you have the systematic code for a
specific publication. You can also scan the index for an overview of the codes
(scan systematic code).
- Search by medical heading (MESH) : MSH
English medical keywords are added to the publications. Enter MSH before the
medical keyword by which you wish to search.
Example: msh cancer
- Search by LC subject heading : LCS
Enter LCS before the keyword by which you wish to search in the Library of
Congress classification.
Example: lcs abandoned children
- Search by subject heading : TRF
Enter TRF before the search term if you are searching by keywords added to
the titles.
Example: trf european parliament
- Search by subject-PRECIS : PRC
Enter PRC before the PRECIS code if you have the PRECIS code for a specific
publication.
- Search by catalogue number : CAT
Enter CAT before the catalog number if you have the catalog number for a
specific publication.
- Search by shelfmark : SIG
Enter SIG if you know the number-local-call.
- Search by abstract : ABS
Enter ABS before the search term to search for publications in an abstract
which has been added to most titles.
Example: abs religions
- Search by author-title key(4/4) : ATS
Type the first 4 letters of the author's surname and the first
4 letters of the first word of the title.
Omit definite and indefinite articles, do not omit
prepositions. If a word consists of less than 4 letters then
fill out with blanks.

- Search by conference : CON
Enter CON before the congress name if you are searching for a specific
conference. Note: use quotation marks to search for a literal text.
- Search by number : NUM
Enter NUM before the ISBN or ISSN number for a specific publication.
- Search by subject: person : PAO
Enter PAO before the search term if you want to search publications that deal
with a specific person.
Example: pao churchill
- Search by publisher : UIT
Enter UIT before the name of a publisher if you are searching for a specific
publisher. The index contains the complete name of the publisher as this
appears in the publication. For example, if you search using the name
elsevier, all publications from a publisher that starts with elsevier will
be found. Use quotation marks to search for literal phrases.

- Search by basic-code (GOO) : BCL
To search for publications about a specific scientific subject using the basic
classification. If you do not have this classification, it is preferable to
search via the list of subjects.
- Search by subject heading (GOO) : GTR
Dutch language GOO keywords are added to the titles. Enter GTR before the GOO
keyword by which you want to search.
- Search by epn : EPN
If you know the Copy-production-number.
- Search by SISO code : SIS
Enter SIS before the SISO code if you have the SISO code for the type of
publication.
- Search by NUGI call number : NUG
Enter NUG before the NUGI code if you have the NUGI code for the type of
publication.
- Search by subject-Brinkman : BTR
Dutch language Brinkman keywords are added to the titles. Enter BTR before the
Brinkman keyword by which you want to search.
- Search by subject-Lidia : LTR
Enter LTR before the LIDIA keyword by which you want to search.
- Search by full title journal : HTL
Enter HTL before the magazine title and sub-title you are looking for. Omit
articles at the beginning of the title. If you scan the entire title, you
will get an overview of all magazines.

- Search by series : RKS
Enter RKS before a maximum of four words from the address of the series.
Example:

- Search by decentral classification : LSC
Enter LSC before a decentral classification code.
Example:

- Search by publisher number : PNR
Enter PNR before the publisher number if you have the publisher number for a
specific publisher.
- Search by Uniform Resource Locator : URL
Enter url before the Internet address you are looking for. Note:
you must enter both a backslash and a slash (\/) rather than just a slash (/).
Example:
url www.physsportsmed.com\/journal.htm
- Search by type of publication : MAT
Enter the type of publication for which you are searching. Only publications
that satisfy the material code will be selected. You can only use the material
code in combination with another search key.
Example:
